Comedian Anita Asuoha, popularly known as Real Warri Pikin, had a whirlwind weekend at the 2026 AFRIMMA Awards in Dallas, Texas. She took home the Best Stand Up Comedian award, only for a viral clip from the same event to spark heavy backlash days later.
The controversy started when singer Timaya invited a woman from backstage to join him during his performance of his hit song Ukwu. Real Warri Pikin ended up on stage and was lifted by Timaya as part of the routine, and the footage quickly spread across social media. Many commenters criticized the moment as inappropriate for a married woman, while others defended it as a harmless part of live entertainment.
In a video posted on Instagram, the comedian apologized to her fans and to her husband, Ikechukwu Asuoha, whom she has been married to since 2013. She explained that she was reluctant to join Timaya on stage and did not expect to be lifted during the performance, describing the entire episode as spontaneous rather than planned. She asked Nigerians to ease up on the criticism, saying she takes full responsibility for the situation.
