Sampa The Great Set to Release ‘Nu Zamrock’ Album

Sampa The Great is preparing to enter a new chapter with Nu Zamrock, her upcoming third studio album scheduled for October 30, 2026. The 16-track project will arrive through Loma Vista Recordings, marking her first full-length release since 2022’s As Above, So Below.

Born in Zambia and raised in Botswana, Sampa The Great has built an international career around hip-hop, poetry, soul, and African musical influences. Her connection to Nu Zamrock is especially personal. She recently discovered that her uncle, George Kunda, known as Groovy Joe, was a founding member of WITCH, one of the pioneering bands of Zambia’s 1970s Zamrock movement.

The album takes that family history as a starting point and reworks the spirit of Zamrock through Sampa’s own musical language. The project draws from the psychedelic rock, funk, and African rhythmic foundations associated with Zamrock while bringing hip-hop, soul, and spoken-word sensibilities into the mix. Nu Zamrock is executive produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Cadenze.

The album is already generating attention through its lead-up singles. “Can’t Hold Us,” released previously and featured in EA Sports FC 26, introduced an early taste of the project, while “Simon Says” arrived with the album announcement in September. The latter pairs Sampa’s rap delivery with a rock-oriented production and addresses the pressures surrounding visibility and expectations in the music industry.

Nu Zamrock is compelling because its concept reaches beyond retro revivalism. Sampa The Great is drawing from a significant part of Zambia’s musical history while reshaping its rock textures, rhythmic character, and rebellious energy through contemporary rap and soul. That combination gives the upcoming album a strong cultural identity and plenty of musical anticipation.
