Nyem Ego By Blaqbonez Ft. Jeriq

Blaqbonez and Jeriq’s “Nyem Ego” continues to pull in new listeners, and a recent official music video has given the song renewed visibility. First released on October 27, 2023, the track has had a long afterlife, still surfacing on music sites and streaming platforms well past its original drop.

Blaqbonez has built a reputation as one of Nigerian hip-hop’s sharpest wordsmiths, known for confident delivery and a strong command of punchlines. Jeriq, who joins him here, is a fast-rising rapper from eastern Nigeria recognized for his distinctive voice and melodic touch. The two artists complement each other well, with Blaqbonez’s swagger balanced by Jeriq’s more melodic approach, and Rolling Stone took notice, naming “Nyem Ego” one of the 40 Best Afropop Songs of 2023.

The song comes from Blaqbonez’s third studio album, Emeka Must Shine, and was produced by Masterkraft and Blaise Beatz. Its title translates from Igbo as “give me money,” and the lyrics lean into themes of hustle, financial ambition and persistence on the road to success. Blaqbonez opens with confident verses full of wordplay, while Jeriq’s voice takes center stage through the chorus and carries listeners through the song’s hook with ease.

Musically, the track blends traditional Igbo rhythmic elements with modern hip-hop production, giving it a sound that feels rooted in culture while staying current. The chorus, built around the repeated “biko nyem ego” line, gives the song its most memorable and chantable moment.

There is no confirmed new viral clip behind the recent uptick in attention, but the song’s official music video, directed by Kemz and released more recently, has helped keep “Nyem Ego” circulating. Combined with its Rolling Stone recognition and the lasting popularity of Emeka Must Shine, the track has maintained a steady presence in Nigerian hip-hop conversations.

“Nyem Ego” is an exciting track with captivating energy, impressive delivery, and a memorable sound. Make sure you listen to this impressive song and add it to your playlist today.
