Umar M. Shareef’s “Arashi” continues to find new listeners years after its 2017 release, remaining one of the standout tracks from his album Kuyi Hakuri.

Born in Kaduna State, Nigeria, Umar Muhammad Shareef has built his reputation as one of Hausa music’s most celebrated romantic voices, known for turning genuine emotional experiences into songs that resonate deeply across Northern Nigeria. As a singer, songwriter, actor, and the CEO of his own Shareef Studios, he has spent years creating music that speaks directly to everyday Hausa experiences of love and attraction.

The track runs 3:47 under the R&B/Soul genre tag, written and composed entirely by Umar M. Shareef himself. Its title, meaning “storm” in Hausa, works as a metaphor for the overwhelming, almost unstoppable force of falling in love, with the song framing romantic attraction as something that arrives suddenly and takes hold regardless of resistance. Umar M. Shareef’s warm, expressive delivery captures that intensity throughout, giving the record real emotional weight beneath its smooth, melodic production.

That vivid metaphor has helped “Arashi” remain a distinctive entry within Umar M. Shareef’s catalog, continuing to circulate on Hausa music platforms years after its original release. The song’s inclusion on later compilation projects, including World Rhapsody Vol. 15 and Tribal Grooves Vol. 21, has also helped introduce it to new audiences beyond his core fanbase, extending its reach well past its initial rollout.

“Arashi” shows Umar M. Shareef at his most poetic, turning the overwhelming rush of new love into a genuinely compelling metaphor. His delivery carries real conviction, and the storm imagery gives the song a distinctive identity within his broader catalog. It remains a striking, emotionally resonant track that continues to find new listeners years after its release.
