Mark’s “1999” is a song about starting over, and listeners keep coming back to it. It is the title track from his solo debut, and it still feels as fresh as its launch day.

Mark Lee is a Canadian rapper and singer based in South Korea, best known through NCT. “1999” is the title track from The Firstfruit, his first full solo album, released April 7, 2025. The record tells his life story through four cities: Toronto, New York, Vancouver, and Seoul.

The song is a lively pop and funk track with a big, cinematic feel. Grand orchestration, funky guitar, brass, and whistling give it a playful, celebratory energy, and falsetto touches add to the pop-funk groove. The title points to Mark’s birth year, but it also stands for the feeling of being reborn as a solo artist, and that idea runs through the whole song.

I couldn’t verify one specific trigger for this week’s attention, but the song has real staying power. After release, the album topped iTunes charts in 14 regions, and “1999” reached number one on Bugs’ real-time chart in Korea. An orchestral version was later performed at the KBS Song Festival in December 2025. It keeps resonating because the message of a fresh start is universal, and the performance sounds confident instead of forced.

“1999” is bold, bright, and full of personality. The arrangement is rich without feeling crowded, the brass and guitar give the groove real swing, and Mark’s delivery balances sharp rapping with easy melodic color. The song sounds like an artist stepping fully into his own voice, and that joy is contagious.

“1999” is an exciting track with captivating energy, impressive delivery, and a memorable sound. Make sure you listen to this impressive song and add it to your playlist today.
